How to support your skin this winter season ⛄️

Winter is here!!!

And ohhh myyyy goodnessss! Are the nights cold 🥶

But other than a wardrobe change (get those knits out!)…. There should also be a skincare change as well!

For some you may not need to, but it is very common that for a lot of us we need to slightly adjust our skincare to make sure we are giving our skin what it needs now.

Our skin starts to feel quite dry and dehydrated, maybe even look a bit dull or feel a bit rough in texture. You may even notice there is some diffused redness or your skin is a bit more sensitised or reactive compared to how it is normally.

And that is all likely contributed to the change in season.

Winter can really wreak havoc on our skin.

From the cold, harsh winds to the low humidity and then add the indoor heating to the mix as well and you’ve got a lovely environment for dryness, dehydration, an impaired barrier and a lack lustre skin.

Plus, not only is the weather changing, but it means our lifestyle changes as well. We are inside a lot more, heating is on, showers are hotter… all this affects our skin as well.

But here are a few things to consider when supporting your skin this winter:

Shower temp

I'm a realist guys… it's cold! No one wants a cold shower in winter! So I'm not even going to bother saying have a cooler shower 😂 but if you can then I highly recommend having a warm shower as opposed to hot! But I’ll be honest and say for me I LOVE a hot shower so what I'm doing is avoiding putting my face straight under the water.

Hot water is very dehydrating for the skin. But putting your face straight under the water can also be damaging to your skin any way, regardless of water temp. So I recommend to avoid putting your face straight under the water all year round.

Now… Yes your body is important too! So definitely make sure you moisturise after a shower - this again should be all year round but especially in winter and even more so if you like a hot shower.

Add lipids and hydration to your skincare routine

If your skin is feeling dry and dehydrated… or even just dehydrated… I still suggest adding both lipids and hydrating products.

We need the lipids to help the skins barrier which will then help to keep the hydration in your skin and help prevent Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL). Think of TEWL like the hydration in your skin evaporating back out.

I personally am loving the Dermaviduals Individual Lotion for hydration but am adding back Lotion N as well. The Suusmoon Lotion N is like lipids in a spray bottle 🤩

And the Oleogel S would be amazingggg for dry skin as well!

Or another option would be a custom Dermaviduals oil blend.

And if you're loving the Bare Roots products then their Herbal Mist is a must have for hydration and the Omega oil for lipids 👌🏼

Weekly at home treatment

A weekly at home treatment is amazing for your skin!! It just helps to step up your routine and treat your skin to something that is additional to your daily routine.

This will vary from skin to skin, but for most of us an at home treatment including an exfoliant and face mask, along with your normal skincare, is amazing for your skin.

My personal fav is adding in these 3 products for your at home treatment:
Dermaviduals Peeling Cream
Dermaviduals Individual Clay Mask
SIMKA Hydrating Face Mask

And more recently I’ve been loving the new dermaviduals Fleece Mask, which is absolutely perfect for winter! This ticks all the right boxes – hydrating, nourishing, antioxidant rich and brightening!!

And if you’re loving the Bare Roots skincare then their at home treatment options would include:
Bare Roots Bamboo Enzyme Peel
Bare Roots Camellia Sheet Mask

Absolutely love this duo all year round to be honest!

Omega 3s

Don't forget, or underestimate, the importance of supporting your skin from the inside!! Diet has a big impact on our skin. And something really important when it comes to dryness, dehydration and inflammation is essential fatty acids!!

This means we need to make sure we are topically supporting our skin with omega 3s but also internally as well.

As much as I try to make sure I'm eating good fats I know I'm not getting enough. So I choose to also use an omega 3 supplement.

Now this won't be for everyone but this is something that I have found has really helped my skin, hair and nails!

My fav is the new SIMKA Alpha Omega 3 gel capsules! I've been taking these since November 2023! And honestly feel this has really helped my skin, especially through winter, as it's not as dry as it usually would be!

Our Limited-Edition Winter Nourish Facial
60 mins - $225

Whilst regular monthly facials are amazing for the skin, I also realise that just may not be possible for everyone as I know we are all busy. So, the next best thing is a facial every quarter!

This can even be done to coincide with seasonal changes which means your skin is getting a treat and I am able to assess your skin and adjust your skincare if needed - your at home skincare routine is so important to help support the skin on a daily basis.

And this year I have created the perfect winter facial! I have designed it to specifically support your skin through this seasonal change and it includes the new dermaviduals Fleece Mask.

This new mask is very nourishing, hydrating, calming and brightening. Plus, it also has amazing anti-ageing benefits as well.

This facial is only available June to August, so make sure you book your winter facial asap.

Now available (June to August 2025 only) to book online or reply to this email and I can do it on my end 😌

Well, those are just a few of the common things I find help a lot of people through winter. There is so many things that we can do to support your skin so please don’t feel you don’t have other options if those aren’t enough for your skin.

And as always, remember no two skins are the same. So for recommendations that are specifically suited to what your skin needs, that is what I am here for 🤗 And it’s super easy, just book in for a consultation and I can help guide you on getting your skin healthy, balanced and glowing again.

So how is your skin going with this change in season?
